Red Polka dress is extremely girly, yet so sexy. This stylization reminds me of the Marilyn Monroe image in a polka dot bikini from 1951. Although it's unknown when polka dots first appeared, we know that dots become functional on some everyday clothing trough 1800s. Yet, the pattern was popularized by the Disney carton Minnie Mouse introduced in 1928, and since then never went out of fashion. Even Princess Diana wore a red and white polka dot jacket in 1988.
The word “polka” itself derives from the Polish for “Polish woman”, and the dance popular in mid-19th century Europe. The term was first printed in 1857 by the American women’s magazine Godey’s Lady’s Book.
Modern polka dots style is playful, feminine, and sophisticated.
